day 6.

Okay... I have been really behind on my posts, I do apologize!! But today we started the day off at 6:40am and had a jam packed day. We took the tube to the train station and took a train to Salisbury to see Salisbury Cathedral, which has the tallest church spire in the UK. It was beautiful and the architecture was amazing! The main body was completed in only 38 years, from 1220 to 1258. It also contains the oldest working clock in the world! This Cathedral is about 753 years old and we had the opportunity to climb all 355 steps the the top of the spire and see the spectacular view from the top! It was amazing.

Last but not least we went to Stone Henge! It is basically exactly like the picture.. nothing too exciting, except for our mad acrobatic skills! Oh! And we had some pretty funny taxi drivers take us up there. We were trying to get our taxi driver talk with an American accent, he had a really hard time imitating us.But he said he liked our accent and said it was always a treat when Americans come to visit :) His dad was one of the other taxi drivers and tried to embarrass him the whole time in front of him. He said that I "fancied his son" haha. It was a good time :)
But back to the history of Stonehenge... It was built between 3100 - 1100 BCE. The circle was aligned with the midsummer sunrise, the midwinter sunset, and the most southerly rising and northerly setting of the moon. The ground plan and structural engineering of Stonehenge incorporate sophisticated mathematical and geometrical understandings on the part of it's builders. There were also two types of stones used in its construction: the 'bluestones' (weighing as much as 4 tons and brought from 240 miles away!!) and the Sarsen stones (averaging 18 feet in height and 25 tons in weight)!!! This is quite a remarkable setting.
